It has been called Steamboat's most colorful weekend, which says a lot. One of the most anticipated events of summer, the annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo takes to the skies July 12-13, 2008.
The 28th Annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo (970 879-8000) combined with the 34th Annual Art in the Park have become a staple of Steamboat in the summertime. Organizers have secured Bald Eagle Lake as the launch field for this year's event.
Admission is free, but there will be no parking at Bald Eagle Lake. Traffic will be limited to balloon pilots, vendors and staff only. Free parking will be available at the Meadows Parking Lot with shuttles available both event days. Pedestrian and bike traffic is encouraged, and the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association - in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Transportation and Routt County - is working to ensure safe passage for all visitors to this hallmark summer event.
There will be vendors selling souvenirs, coffee and breakfast items, and everyone is encouraged to join the pilots on the launch field to take pictures and watch them take off. Bring plenty of film.
