With eight 18-hole championship golf courses and one 9-hole course spread out between Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, Crooked Tree Golf Club, and the renowned Bay Harbor Club, located along bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan, the choices are endless for golf enthusiasts. A full service resort, the lodging and dining choices are seemingly as endless as the golf holes. "Golf Digest" Magazine recently selected Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, and The Inn at Bay Harbor as three of their "Top 75 Resorts in America." Golf weeks are big here in the summer. Bay Harbor Golf Club: The crown jewel in the Boyne Golf collection is the Bay Harbor Golf Club. The most recent accolade this course has received is the "Silver Medal Resort" award from "Golf" Magazine. Its 27 holes of golf are arranged in three distinctive nine hole stretches. The Heather by Robert Trent Jones: Ranked as one of the top 100 courses you can play by "Golf" Magazine. The course that started it all in northern Michigan. A classic, winding its way through north woods forest and a blueberry bog. A shotmaker's favorite, this course features excellent risk reward challenges. The Hills: Eighteen holes of spectacular play. Its enormous bunkers, intimidating water holes, state-of-the-art tees, fairways and greens are just what you'd expect from one of America's most respected golf course architects. The Donald Ross Memorial: Eighteen recreations of the master's greatest holes. St. Andrews, Pinehurst, Royal Dornoch, Inverness, Oakland Hills, and others pay tribute to this accomplished designer. Greens are painstakingly detailed. Rated one of the state's finest by "Golf Digest." The Moor: The favorite of summertime resident and world-class master instructor Jim Flick, the Moor features numerous doglegs, marshes, and water holes along its 7,179 yards. A versatile course to challenge and reward every level of golfer. The Alpine: The Alpine starts at Boyne Mountain's summit, dropping down in swoops to Deer Lake. Spectacular views are everywhere. Fairways are wide and inviting. Blind shots are nonexistent. For all of its innocence, strategic bunkers and water hazards can take their toll. The Monument: A scenic mile-long golf cart ride takes you the summit of this 7,086-yard jewel at Boyne Mountain. Four sets of tees drop in giant steps to the pond-protected first hole that Sam Snead called one of the most intimidating anywhere. Snead, Kathy Whitworth, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and other legends have played the course, admired it, and picked holes to be named for them, thus the name of the course. Crooked Tree: The Crooked Tree Golf Club is perched on bluffs high above Bay Harbor. The course was sculpted from centuries-old hardwoods, and the back nine opens to breathtaking views of Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. Throughout the summer, guests enjoy Boyne's renowned golf courses as well as tennis, swimming, fly-fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking. There's also the New England look-a-like communities of Petoskey and Harbor Springs to enjoy. Situated on the Lake Michigan shoreline, both communities offer a wealth of shopping, dinning and entertainment opportunities.
