Brought to you by the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce and the Alta Alpina Cycle Club, the Tour of the California Alps is also known as the "Death Ride."
Recognized as one of the premier cycling events in the West, the 28th Anniversary Death Ride is also the perfect opportunity to witness the magnificent scenery and warm hospitality of Alpine County. The ride itself is a grueling five-pass course of 129 miles and more than 15,000 feet of climbing. While riding four or less passes is an option, five-pass finishers receive a commemorative pin and are eligible to purchase a special jersey to boast their claim.
The Death Ride Expo takes place July 11th and 12th, and will feature over forty exhibitors of products and services ranging from tech support to souvenirs.
The Death Ride itself is July 12th, and starts and ends at Turtle Rock Park, two miles north of Markleeville. In the interest of rider safety, State Routes 4 and 89 will be closed to vehicular traffic. For more information, including road closure details and a map of the course, visit http://www.deathride.com, or call 530-694-2475.
